Santo Daime is a syncretic religion

Santo Daime is a syncretic Brazilian religion that combines elements of Christianity, indigenous and African spirituality, and shamanism. The uniform worn by members during rituals is a significant part of religious practice and reflects the reverence and seriousness with which they view these moments.

Men's uniform: Men usually wear a white costume, consisting of a long-sleeved white shirt and white pants. Sometimes a white sash is tied around the waist, and there can be variations depending on the specific tradition within Santo Daime practice. In addition, some adepts wear white hats as part of their uniform.

Women's uniform: For women, the traditional uniform is also white, consisting of a long white skirt and a long-sleeved white blouse. As with the men's costumes, there may be variations depending on the specific lineage or tradition. Many women also wear a white headscarf during rituals.

The choice of white as the predominant color in the uniform has symbolic meanings, such as representing purity, peace and the spiritual quest. In addition, white is associated with light, which is an important element in Santo Daime practices.

The uniform is not just a garment; it is considered an external expression of the participants' spiritual commitment. By wearing the uniform, members show respect for the rituals, the community and the sacred elements present in the ceremony, such as Ayahuasca, an entheogenic drink central to Santo Daime practices.

It's important to note that practices and traditions can vary between different Santo Daime centers, and some communities may have variations in uniforms.
